Nucleic acid functionalized extracellular vesicles as promising therapeutic systems for nanomedicine

Scheme 1. Nucleic acid-functionalized EVs are promising therapeutic systems for nanomedicine. As a functional macromolecule, nucleic acid has the capabilities of targeting, self-assembly, drug loading, gene editing, and immune regulation. By combining nucleic acid with EVs, EVs acquire the functional properties of nucleic acid, thus showing unprecedented application potential in drug delivery, immune regulation, and gene therapy, which are expected to provide a promising therapeutic system.
