Special Issue Introduction

The 2nd Lugano ExoDay is the second date of a series of symposium held in Lugano dedicated scientists active in the field of extracellular vesicles (EV). It will take place within a context of an international network established for carrying out a project aiming to develop a new affinity-based platform for reversible and scalable extracellular vesicles (EV) isolation (MARVEL ID: 951768). The project was founded by the European Commission within the “Transition to Innovation Activities” in the area of technologies for the life sciences, health and treatment (H2020-EIC-FETPROACT-2019, The workshop that will be held in Lugano on April 13, 2022, will benefit the MARVEL project in terms of the project’s concept dissemination and meeting with potential end-users or companies for future collaboration. The workshop is also open to students and researchers outside the MARVEL-network and will be attended by three international keynote lecturers, experts in the field of EVs. All the participants will have an in-depth overview on the requirements and the state-of-the-art techniques currently in use for the isolation, characterization and tracking of EVs. Moreover, we will have presentations given by students and ample time for a round-table discussion. The workshop supported by Swiss National Foundation (IZSEZ0_209598) will bring together resident researchers and European experts, leading to potential collaborations between research groups working in the field of EVs.

The present issue will include the abstract presented during the symposium. The issue is also open to general research articles, reviews, commentary, and opinions not directly linked to the symposium. All the submitted papers will undergo a strict peer-review process.
