Special Issue Introduction

In the past decade, extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been appreciated in mediating cell-to-cell communication profoundly involved in a myriad of pivotal physiological and pathological processes, including cellular homeostasis, infection propagation, cancer development, cardiovascular diseases, neuron degenerative disease, etc. With advances in new technologies, EVs started to be dissected in depth from various angles, including their biogenesis, cargo content, and roles in both physiological and pathological conditions. A better understanding of EVs immediately draws attention to their applications in diagnosis, drug delivery, and therapeutics.

This special issue will provide and explore new insights into EV biogenesis and function and will include original research articles and reviews on the following topics:
● Machinery regulating EV release and cargo sorting;
● Function of EVs in mediating physiological processes;
● Role of EVs in mediating pathological processes;
● EVs acting as disease therapeutics.
